Dawgs #5 in Preseason AP Poll, Updated Heisman Odds

The 2021 Preseason AP Top 25 Poll was released today and the Georgia Bulldogs came in at #5 just below Alabama, Oklahoma, Clemson, and Ohio State in that order. How Oklahoma managed to beat out a stout Clemson team, a team that just beat that Clemson team in the playoffs, and the Georgia MF Bulldogs is beyond me. We shall see how that assessment holds up against the test of time.

In related news, the updated Vegas odds for the Heisman trophy include some names associated with a few of these teams, namely: 1) Spencer Rattler from OU, 2) DJ Uiagalelei from Clemson, 3) Bryce Young from Alabama, 4) CJ Stroud from Ohio State, and 5) JT Daniels from UGA.

We can hem and haw about the order of these 5 teams and QBs, but the preseason consensus is that these are the 5 teams and 5 players to watch for a playoff or championship run this season. It’s also worth noting that—of the list of players mentioned above—only 2 of them have had more than 2 career starts: Spencer Rattler (11) and JT Daniels (12 at USC and 4 at UGA). DJ from Clemson started 2 games last season as a stand-in while Trevor Lawrence had Covid-19 and looked very impressive. However, the 2 young men slotting in behind him remain fairly unproven on the big stage of college football.

And so on September 4th, it will be a headliner matchup—most likely the best game of the regular season—between the #3 Clemson Tigers and the #5 Georgia Bulldogs, between #2 DJ Uiagalelei and #5 JT Daniels, between Dabo Swinney and Kirby Smart! It’s set up to be an absolute brawl that will determine not much other than WHO WANTS IT MOST!
